Benjamin Jessie Hall

April 9, 1946 — August 4, 2023

Benjamin Jessie Hall, Jr., was born April 9, 1946, and died August 4, 2023. He lived for many years on Lorton Lick Road and recently moved to Bluefield, WV. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served a short time in the Army, He taught school in McDowell County for 30 years and was loved by most of his students. He had a knack for loving children who needed a buddy. He ran the Blueboy and Underground in Montcalm, WV. He had a third degree blackbelt in karate. He always had joy in his heart and was a family man. He was a humble man and had compassion and a desire to help others. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lizze Hall; three brothers, Bill Dillion, Ed Gearhart, and Tommy Gearhart; two sisters, Judy Tibbs and Jettie Nicewander; first wife, Patricia June Hall; and grandson, Joshua Clower. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Lynn Hall of the home; daughter Candas Hall of the home; sons, Jay (Lana) Hall of Parkton, NC, Josh Brinkhoff of Montcalm, WV, and Preston Fitzgerald (Tiffany Sparks) of Lorton Lick, WV; step-daughter, Julie Fitzgerald of Montcalm, WV; grandchildren, Haley Clower (Michael Smith) of Christiansburg, VA, Ben Hall (Olivia Mays) of Bluewell, WV, Trysta-Lynne Miller of Nemours, WV; great grandchildren, Oakley Smith of Christiansburg, VA; Lorelia Hall of Bluewell, WV, and Grainger Higgins of Princeton, WV; brother Marshall Hall of Montcalm, WV; sisters, Mary Spaulding of Rogersville, TN, and Elizabeth Vaughn of Bluewell, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell, WV, with David and Margaret Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park where Benny Jay Hall, Ben R. Hall, Joshua Brinkhoff, Preston Fitzgerald, Jesse Hall, and Matt Wilson will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veteran's Honor Guard. A visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM. Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is serving the Hall family.
