Barbara Jean Woods

Barbara Jean Woods, 78, of Hill Avenue, Bluefield, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at her home.

Born on June 26, 1940 in Tip Top, VA, she was a daughter of the late George Hamilton and Alma Leona Thompson Brown. She had been a resident of the Bluefield area for 54 years and was a member of the First AME Zion Church in Bluefield. She was a graduate of Tazewell County Schools and was in the first nursing class of Bluefield State College. She was a retired nurse with 39 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernell Woods; a son, Michael Thompson, and sisters, Helen Buchanan, Kathleen Steptoe, Doris Brown and brothers, Hubert Brown and Carl Brown. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Leona (Harry) Allen of Helena, AL

7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Eugene Watson, Rev. James Green, and Rev. Justina Young officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where nephews will serve as pallbearers. Nieces will serve as flowerbearers.

Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00-12:00 PM at the funeral home.
