Americo Salpini

Rick Salpini, 101, passed away on December 13, 2024 while residing at a senior living center in Burke, VA.

Rick was born on May 29, 1923 in Premier, WV and grew up in Welch, WV. He was the son of Pete & Maria Salpini and graduated from Welch High School in 1941. He served in the US Navy in WWII on LST171 and went up the west side of the Pacific with General MacArthur's forces from New Guinea to Okinawa. He was discharged in 1946 and after a brief return to Welch where he married his wife, Virginia Conner Salpini, they relocated to Washington, DC and he went to work for the US Government. His career was with the Army Material Command and he retired in 1978.

After retirement, he and Jennie relocated to Florida where they owned homes in New Port Richey and Hudson. After Jennie passed away he remained in Florida until 2022 when he relocated to Burke, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen Salpini, and his brother Benny Salpini. He is survived by his son Gary Salpini and wife Sharon, and his granddaughter Susan Salpini.

Services will be at Cravens Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV on April 12, 2025 at Noon followed by interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield, WV.
