Alma Dean England

August 15, 1948 — January 14, 2024

Alma Dean (Deanie) England, 75 of Bluefield, WV, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 at her home.

Alma Dean was born in Roderfield, West Virginia on August 15, 1948 to the late William Hezikiah Hensley and Anna Mae (Norton) Hensley.  She had many different nicknames like Deanie, Dee, Squall Dean, Momma and her personal favorite, Granny. She married the love of her life, the late Robert England (Sr.) when she was only eighteen years old and flew to Germany by herself, to support her husband on base as he fought for our country. She had three kids, whom she loved more than life. Deanie went back to school after having her children despite health issues and personal trauma and became a registered nurse at the age of 48. She was a hardworking travel nurse up until she became disabled, and even then never stopped caring for others. As she grew older and her health began to decline, she  always said that her bags were packed and she was ready to see the Lord and heaven above.

Alma passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 14th, 2024, with her beloved dog, Sparkles, by her side and her family surrounding her. She is preceded in death by her parents William Hensley and Anna Mae (Norton) Hensley, her brother David Hensley, her husband Robert (Bobby) England (Sr.), and her two sons Robert (Binky) England (Jr.) and William (Billy) England. She is survived by her daughters DeAnna Edwards and fiancé Kenneth Stamper (Jr.) and Kimberly Singleton and husband Mark Singleton and daughter-in-laws Sheri England and Diann Bennett, her grandchildren Courtney and Larry Hall, Tyler and Chelsea England, Darin and Lindsey Jones, Micah Edwards, Summer Singleton, Kenneth O. Stamper, Anna Edwards, Zachary Singleton, and Amber Singleton, her great-grandchildren Desiree England, Layla England, Kaiden Jones, Gunner England, and Tre Hall. She is also survived by siblings Teddy and Glenna Hensley, Becke and Charlie Mullins, Brenda Moore, Kenneth and Amy Hensley, Loretta and Bob Morin, Noleta and Carl Harris, and Jamie Hensley, along with a host of wonderful nieces and nephews, and loving friends Sharon Belcher and Marsha Parker.  Alma Dean cared for and loved everyone she knew and was a true friend to many.  She loved her weak coffee and cigarettes almost as much as she loved spoiling her grandkids and traveling with her sisters. Alma Dean, Deanie, Momma, Granny, whatever she was to you, was sure to be a light in your world. She instilled strength in the people around her and always preached kindness. Towards the end,  her family was comforted and aided by Compasses Hospice Care, specifically her nurse Heather Estep, and her friend and caregiver Lilly Warren. The family is honored to be assisted by Craven-Shires Funeral Home. Pastor Kenny Bogart will preside over the services in Bluefield and Pastor Mark Hatley will preside over the burial in Tennessee.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluefield West Virginia. Funeral will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM Cravens-Shires Funeral, Bluefield, WV. Alma will then be taken to Horse Creek Church of God Cemetery, 900 Old Jonesboro Road, in Chuckey, TN  37641 for burial. All are welcome to attend.
