Allan Ray Lawson, 78, of Gary, WV passed away peacefully on February 10, 2023, at Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley, WV. Born in Skygusty, WV on February 14, 1944, he was son of the late Edgar and Bethel Lawson. Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Paulette Lawson, brother’s Charles and Edgar “Sonny” Lawson, and sister Bonnie Fowler. He is survived by daughter Paula Taylor of McGrady, North Carolina, son Nathan Lawson of Bluefield, Virginia, grandson Adam Cox of Gary, WV and sister Garnett “Faye” Farmer of Elkhorn, WV.
Allan was an employee of U.S Steel Corp. in Gary West Virginia for several years. He was an accomplished multi-instrumentalist performing on the Grand Ole Opry with Bill Monroe and Loretta Lynn. He loved the outdoors, working on vehicles, and spent a good deal of his free time hunting and fishing. Allan was charismatic man to whom no one was a stranger.
A memorial service will be held in the Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV on Friday February, 17, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. Services will be officiated by Donald Farmer III. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the Lawson family requests that any donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, WV.All
