Mary Shumate

Mary Lashiw Shumate, 92 of Camellia Drive Bluewell, WV died at home on Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Born on December 27, 1924 in Berwick, PA.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ray Luther Shumate, parents George and Tessie Watach Lashiw, brothers John, Andrew, and Mike and sister Diana (Annie). Mary was a resident of Bluewell for 59 years.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bluefield. A lifelong homemaker, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. She is survived by four sons: Wayne Shumate of Brushfork and special friend Penny Romeo of Bluefield, Raymond Shumate and Felicia Mancuso of Hempstead, TX, Mark Shumate and Karen of Princeton, John Shumate and Sandy of Princeton, four daughters: Karen Kidd and Randy of Bluefield, Marilyn Shumate McCoy and Jimmie of Bluefield, Diana Gibson and Michael of Draper, VA, Delores Shumate of the home and special friend JK Simmons of Bluefield; 11 grandchildren; Wendi Aiello and Gorge, Jeremiah Gibson, Stacey Zinsmeister and Michael, Justin Shumate, Joshua Gibson and Tammy, Katie Kidd, Courtney Shumate, Whitney Shumate, Cameron Shumate, McKenzie Shumate, Jakoby Shumate; 14 great-grandchildren:  Alex, Grace, Ethan and Rhys Aiello, Blake and Aiden Zinsmeister, Jackson, Hadley, and Keagan Wills, Emma, Hayden and Owen Gibson, Shelbi Hardman and Kallista Shumate; sister Alice Markovski of Sewickley, PA; brother-in-laws Robert Shumate and Iona of Bryceville, FL and Melvin Shumate and Jane of Salisbury, NC; special cousin Jean Watach of Elmira, NY; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, with Rev. Sebastian Devasya officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where John Shumate, Michael Gibson, Jeremiah Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Justin Shumate, and George Aiello, will serve as pallbearers. Randy Kidd, Jimmie McCoy, Alex Aiello, Cameron Shumate, and Michael Zinsmeister will serve as honorary pallbearers.
