Edith Elma Yates

Edith Elma Yates, 76, of New Haven Road, North Tazewell, VA, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Dogwood Crossing Nursing Home in North Tazewell, VA.   Born on June 27, 1940 in Jenkinjones, she was a daughter of the late Rudy Paul and Dotty Catherine Dollinger Miller. She had been a resident of North Tazewell for 8 years and was a retired secretary for the US Government’s Department of Energy. She loved to travel in her motor home.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Wayne Miller; and a sister, Eleanor Miller.   Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Wade Melvin Yates of the home; 5 brothers, Barry Virgil Miller and Jane of Bluefield, VA, Richard Stevenson Miller and Veronica of Bluefield, VA, Franklin Elwood Miller of Bluefield, VA, Paul Lee Miller and Sue of Bluefield, VA, and J. Edward Miller and Olivia of Falls Mills, VA; and sisters, Ferne Martin and Philip of Pax, WV, Rita Miller of Nashville, TN, and Jane Jenkins and Alan of Waynesville, NC.   Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Donnie Farmer officiating. Burial will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.   Friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
