Eva Goforth Sutphin

October 8, 1919 — December 19, 2016

Eva Goforth Sutphin, 97, of Deer Pine Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield.   Born on October 8, 1919 in Brushfork, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Monroe and Alpha Jane Perdue Goforth.  She was a member of the Montcalm Primitive Baptist Church and when her health permitted, she loved to attend the Friendship Church in Spanishburg and Pipestem Primitive Baptist Church. She was raised on a dairy farm in Brushfork and lived her entire 97 years in the area. She dedicated her life to her husband, five children, 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. She had been blind for 23 years and the way she lived her life was an inspiration to all who knew her.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Elder James Harold Sutphin; a special niece, Janie Akers who was like a daughter to her; grandson, Joey White and Son-in-law, Cecil Walsh; sister, Lector Goforth Sutphin (Orville); and brothers, CW Goforth (Ella), Shelton Goforth (Zora), Vernie Goforth (Flora), Emory Goforth (June), Dennis Goforth (Virginia), Howard Goforth (Merle), and Spencer Goforth. She was the last survivor of her siblings.   Survivors include her children, Sylvia Wimmer (Raymond) of Bluefield, Betty Thomas (Charlie) of Pawleys Island, SC, DeLana Gibson (Tom) of Bluefield, Linda Modena (Ralph) of Princeton, and James Harold Sutphin, Jr. (Debbie) of Peterstown.   Her special caretakers include Shirley Taylor, Shirley Adkins, and Sylvia Perry.   We will celebrate the life of Eva Goforth Sutphin on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Steve Wimmer, David Walsh, Richard Walsh, Matthew Sutphin, Denver Akers, Nathan White, Bradley Wimmer and Shannon Akers will serve as pallbearers.   Friends may call on Friday from 9:00-11:00 at the funeral home.   Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com
