Mabel Mae Triplett Hull

February 9, 1930 — November 30, 2016

Mabel Mae Triplett Hull, 86 of Richmond, VA, formerly from Welch, WV; passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at her residence in Lakewood Manor, Richmond, Va.  She was born February 9, 1930 in Mohegan, WV to Juney Turner and Necy Elizabeth King Triplett. She was a faithful member of the First Church of God in Welch and lived most of her life in McDowell County, WV.  The last 13 years she has lived in Lakewood Manor Retirement Village. All around Lakewood she was known for her sweet smile and singing of the hymns and, of course, “Take Me Home Country Roads”.  She loved her WV home but she found a new home in the people at Lakewood Manor.  They love her dearly.  We cannot express enough our gratitude for the loving care everyone at Lakewood gave our mother. Over the years, mom has been a teacher in a ‘one room school house’, Sunday school teacher, 4-H leader, writer of poems and children’s stories, and a champion of books and reading; creating an adult literacy program in Welch where she had her own room at the local jail to teach prisoners to read and at the local library.  She had a prison ministry and a lifelong ministry of love to everyone she met.  She truly saw the good in everyone.  She didn’t worry much about global things because the motto she taught all her children was ‘to brighten the corner where you are’.  Even in her business, Hull’s Bookkeeping and Tax Service, she managed to minster to peoples’ needs and serve them with love.  And these last few days the stories we told about her touched the many people who visited her to say goodbye.  She was a witness to God’s Amazing Grace and Love all her life and even in death. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marlin Philip Hull, and one very special granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Hull; three brothers, Alfred, Johnny and Tommy; six sisters, Margaret, Betty, Dora, Gladys, Frances (Peachy), and Brenda. She will be missed by 2 sisters; Eleanor (Jim) White of Pipestem, WV and Sue (Mike) Towery of Sumter, SC. and one special brother-in-law, Leonard Booth; 5 children; Larry (Lydia) Hull of Gainesville, FL, Harry (Kathy) Hull of Talcott, WV, Diane (James) Hall of Princeton, WV, Rita (Carter) Buxbaum and Crystal (Michael) Kord of Richmond, VA; 6 grandchildren; Brian (Marty) Hull, James (Crystal) Hall, Phillip(Ashley) Hall, Courtney (Torrian) Hull, Sam and Cassie Buxbaum and 9 great grandchildren; Kipley, Lexi, Christian, Dax, Keelan, Finn, J.D., Molly and Max; lots of nieces and nephews and many friends. A celebration of Mabel’s life will be Saturday, December 3, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Pastors Chuck Hammond and Ed Pettus officiating. Visitation is 1:30 until 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. Pallbearers will be family and friends.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to McDowell County Library, 90 Howard Street, Welch, WV 24801. Online condolences will be accepted at www.cravens-shires.com
