William “Bill” James Powell, Jr., 76, of Foy Bypass (Duhring) Bluefield, West Virginia passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Bill was born on Saturday, April 20, 1940 in Falls Mills, Virginia to the late William James Powell and Kathleen King Powell. Bill was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He had been a resident of Duhring for the past 45 years and was a devoted member of the Bramwell Church of Christ. Bill served his county proudly in the United States Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Lula Tabor. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Lyde Ann Caudill Powell of the home; five daughters Sherry Perdue and husband Rick of Athens, West Virginia, Sandy Downard and husband David of Dublin, Virginia, Terri Daniels and husband Willy of Bluefield, West Virginia, Tammy Bailey and husband Brad of Duhring, West Virginia and Julie Poynter and husband Tim of Bramwell, West Virginia. One living brother Steve Powell and wife Linda of Bluefield, West Virginia and special friends Kat and Clifford Wolford of Bailey Switch, Virginia. Grandchildren Paige Perdue, Megan Perdue, Erica Downard, Kristen Downard, Brandon Daniels and wife Rachel, Tabitha and husband Jon Williams, Chad Daniels, Adrienne and husband Chris Finley, Tara Bailey, Jared “Bo” Bailey, Lakyn Bailey, Cassy Bailey, Koty Poynter, Travis Poynter, Trevor Poynter, and Tyler Poynter. One great grandchild Skylar Finley. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), West Virginia with Rev. Paul Delida officiating the service. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia where Koty Poynter, Brandon Daniels, Chad Daniels, Jared “Bo” Bailey, Travis Poynter, Trevor Poynter, Tyler Poynter, Jon Williams and honorary pallbearer Chris Finley will put him to rest. Military graveside services will be performed by Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends and relatives may come on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
