Jerry William Brooks, Sr. ,67, of Leckie, WV passed away suddenly at his home on November 22, 2016. He was born July 28, 1949 to the Late Opie R. Brooks and Ethel V. Perdue Brooks. He was a lifelong resident of Leckie and an avid WV Mountaineer fan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, nephew and friend. He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He worked for US Steel, 33 years, until his retirement in 2003, where he was a member of the Mine Rescue team. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers: Charles Brooks, Donald Brooks, and Kenneth Brooks, one sister Juanita Kelly, and one grandson, Jayden Valach. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 43 years Deborah (Debbie}Marrs Brooks, of the home; his children: Jody (Sherry) Brooks of Bluefield, WV, Susan (Jamie) Bailey of Leckie, WV, Jerry (Amanda)Brooks of Bluefield, WV, Kristi (Joe) Valach of Nemours, WV; Grandchildren: Heather, Jody (JoJo), and Coley Brooks; Brooke, Brett, and Kelsey Bailey; Sophi and Cooper Brooks; Joseph (Trey) and Noah Valach; Great-Grandson Zaiden Mitchem; three sisters Edna(Ellis) Clifton of Tazewell, VA, Zelma Toler of Wayne, WV and Sharon(Bobby) Bramlett of Anawalt, WV; A special friend, his uncle, Ormand Perdue of Maybeury, WV and special extended family members Dorothy (Delmer) Winebarger, James (Lindsey Morgan) Winebarger and Miss Allie Jo Winebarger, all of Leckie, along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Jimmy Sanson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veteran’s Honor guard will conduct military honors.
