Rita Delphine Asbury

Rita Delphine (Jones) Asbury, 75, of Mystic, Connecticut, formerly from Princeton, WV, passed away to be home with her Lord and Savior on Nov 21, 2016 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut. Born October 9, 1941 in Matoaka, WV, she was the daughter of Lehona Thorne (Jones) Morris and the late Edgar Jones. She graduated High School in Princeton and has been a long time member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church of Princeton. For the last 5 years she was loved and cared for by the wonderful staff at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut. Rita was a military wife who married young and was fortunate to be able to travel with her former husband, Bill Asbury, and their children.  With the loving care of the late Herbert Morris, step-father, and her mother she was able to live independently for almost 15 years before she became ill. The love and support of her siblings and their families was paramount to her independence. Rita was moved to Connecticut Valley Hospital to be closer to her daughter and her family. There she became quite the “fashionista”. Patients loved her and looked upon her as their mother or grandmother. It was common to see her hugging staff that always seemed to know when she needed a cup of coffee or something sweet to eat. She was not an easy patient but the staff continued to fight to keep her on their ward where they could take the best care of her. The last several years she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren (Brandon, Ashley, Corey and Brady) and great-grandson, Gabriel Goodwin. Time would be spent painting her nails, singing gospel hymns, dancing, eating and her favorite, buying new clothes and dressing up. Rita was loved by so many and fortunate to have one of her last memories be that of her son-in-law, Jeff Foster, and her brother, David Morris, visiting with her. They spent several hours telling stories, feeding her and most importantly reminding her that they loved her. Rita was preceded in death by: Edgar Jones (father), Herbert Morris (step father), Dwayne Asbury (son), Edgar Asbury (son) and Stacy Rose (nephew). She is survived by her siblings: Galen Morris and wife Donna as well as their 3 children and 4 grandchildren, David Morris and wife Dianna as well as their 5 children and 6 grandchildren, Denise Woodridge and husband Paul as well as her daughter and 4 granddaughters, and Kermit Morris. She is survived by her children: Dennis Asbury and his 3 children and 1 grandchild, Tammie Yarborough and husband Charlie as well as their 3 children, Bill Asbury and his 2 children and 1 grandson, Vonne Foster and her husband Jeff as well as their 4 children and 2 grandsons. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Paul Woodridge officiating. Burial will follow at the Bailey Cemetery on Browning Lambert Mountain, Rock, WV. Friends may call on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
