Alice Virginia Lockhart

Alice Virginia Nester Lockhart, 92, of Gastonia, North Carolina and formerly of Welch and Princeton, West Virginia passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Brookdale New Hope Assisted Living in Gastonia, North Carolina.                 She was born on March 22, 1924 in Coaldale, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late Kelse and Hattie Mahaffey Nester. Alice attended Elkhorn High School in Northfork, West Virginia and met her husband Edward Lockhart, Jr in Welch, West Virginia. They were married for 69 years and resided in Welch, West Virginia for many years. After raising her family she retired and moved to Princeton, West Virginia in 1986 and lived there for 25 years. She then moved to Gastonia, North Carolina in October 2011 with her late husband to be near her devoted family. She loved to cook for family gatherings, enjoyed reading, traveling and shopping trips. Alice was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church in Princeton, West Virginia.                 In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Edward Lockhart, Jr., four sisters Frances Dunnavant, Louise Barker, Mildred Zelenka and Hilda Phillips; one brother Mike Nester and a son in law Conley Coulson.                  Those left behind to celebrate her life and cherish many precious memories are her three loving daughters: Brenda Harris and husband John of Boones Mills, Virginia, Linda Parsons and husband Millard of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Donna Bolton and husband Steve of Gastonia, North Carolina. Grandson: M. Edward Parsons and wife Cheryl of Greensboro, North Carolina. Granddaughters: Heather Rodriguez and husband Mark of Lowell, North Carolina and Melissa Barnes and husband Justin of Hardy, Virginia. Great granddaughters: Kelsey Rodriguez, Grace Barnes and Elise Barnes. One brother: Fred D. Nester of Great Falls, Montana. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews and special friends.                 The family would like to extend a special thanks to her special friends at the Brookdale Assisted Living and Lincolnton Hospice of Gastonia, North Carolina for their loving care and friendship.                 The family will receive friends and relative on Tuesday, November 01, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), West Virginia.                 Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 02, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia with Rev.
