Lewis Henry Simons

Lewis Henry Simons, 93, of Kade Hollow Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born on February 5, 1923 in Crozier, VA, he was a son of the late Fred and Margaret Blevins Simons. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 30 years and was a member of the Montcalm Church of God. He was a retired coal miner with 35 years of service and was a member of the UMWA. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elva E. Repass Simons; and two sons, Bruce and Paul Simons. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Gibson of Woodbridge, VA; seven grandchildren, Aimee Barton of Springfield, VA, Summer Taylor of Woodbridge, VA, Ashley Humphries of Leland, NC, Paul “PJ” Simons of Leland, NC, Michelle Marshall of Reidsville, NC, Nichole “Nikki” Simons of Reidsville, NC, Charles “Buddy” Simons of Reidsville, NC; five great grandchildren, Scarlett Gibson, Isabella Barton, Dixie Lynn Humphries, Angel Marshall, and Maddox Simons; and a sister, Carolyn Fowler of Bluefield. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Montcalm Church of God with Rev.’s Mac Riggins, Omar Burns and Rayburn Haddock officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell and also on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
