Billy Lee Fowler, 86, of Quarrier Road, Athens, WV, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born on January 30, 1930 in Thorpe, he was a son of the late Boyd and Hattie Mae Goins Fowler. He had been a resident of Athens for 35 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired coal miner and foreman with US Steel with 37 years and was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bonnie Lou Lawson Fowler of the home; 4 sons, David Lee Fowler and wife Margaret of Bluefield, VA, Danny Ray Fowler and wife Mary Ann of St. Mary’s, GA, Billy Joe Fowler of Brushfork, and Barry Allen Fowler and Julia of Athens; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers, Jimmy Fowler and wife Carolyn of Bluefield, Tommy Fowler and wife Joyce of Thorpe, Boyd Jr. Fowler and wife Sue of Thorpe, Kenneth Fowler and wife Crickett of Pageton, Jairus Fowler of Skygusty, Ralph Fowler and wife Kathy of Thorpe; and 5 sisters, Virginia Jones of Thorpe, Shirley Sexton and husband Rev. F.D of Beckley, Sylvia Miller Phillips and husband Bobby of Conklintown, Betty Camden and husband Roy of Skygusty, Barbara Music of Skygusty. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA with Rev. F.D. Sexton officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00-1:30 PM at the funeral home.
