Rennie Wilson, Sr.

December 19, 1941 — September 14, 2016

SFC Rennie R. Wilson Sr, Ret. 74, of Bluewell, WV, went to his heavenly home on September 14, 2016 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. Rennie was born in Pocahontas, Va December 19, 1941 and was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jean Wilson, and his brother, Donnie Wilson. He served 20 years in the military from 1960-1980, serving in Vietnam in the 173 Airborne Division from 1966-1967, serving 2 tours in Germany, and 1 tour in the Dominican Republic. Rennie was in the 82 Airborne Division, 307th Combat Engineer. Rennie was a “Paratrooper” and “Master Jumper” and totaled 265 jumps during his time in the military. Rennie was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he earned his combat infantry badge. He was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC stationed for most of his state side career. After retiring from the military in 1980, Rennie worked for the Norfolk and Western Railway in the Bridge and Building Department until 1991. Rennie coached American Legion Baseball in 1975, and also coached baseball throughout his lifetime. Rennie also officiated football and baseball in Southern, West Virginia. He was a scoutmaster for 10 years in Brushwork area, Pack #522. Rennie had a passion for Little League baseball, having made many trips to Williamsport, Penn. for the little league World Series. Rennie shared a love for hunting, fishing and golfing and was President of his bowling team with the “Wednesday morning seniors” league. Rennie had a love for his children and grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play soccer, baseball, basketball, and softball. Rennie had a love for carpentry and never knew a stranger. Rennie loved many things included the good Lord, family, and participating in community events and helping any way he could. He is survived by his loving wife Reda (Rhodes) Wilson of 56 years. They were married in Pageton, WV on April 16, 1960. Sister, Marie Goforth (Husband, Jody) of Bluefield, sister, Donna Smith of Bridgeport, WV; Sons Rennie R. Wilson, Jr of Buford, Ga and wife Rhonda, and Carl D Wilson of Knoxville, TN and wife Beth; Daughters Rhonda Musick of Bluefield, and husband Todd, and Vonda Wilson of home, Bluefield WV; grandchildren; Haylea and Jordin Musick, Mariel, Paige and Connor Wilson, and Rebecca, Ashley, and Ross Wilson; and great grandchildren, Saniyah and Jaden, Kaden and Kamryn. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the Deliverance Temple Church in Brushfork with Rev. David Kirby and Rev. Carl Stanton officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where nephews will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
