Laura Jean Morse

April 16, 1926 — July 23, 2016

Laura Jean Barlow Morse, 90, of Bluewell and formerly of Bramwell, departed this earthly life on Saturday, July 23, 2016. She now resides with the angels on high in Heaven, reunited with her siblings and parents that she has loved and missed for so many years. She is lonely for them no more. Born April 16, 1926 in Landgraff, she was a daughter of the late Harry Barlow and Pearl Chapel Clark Barlow. After high school, she went directly into nurses training where she obtained her 4 year registered nurse degree and then worked many years at the Medical College of Virginia, where she married and started her family. She then moved to Bramwell to be with her mother and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bluefield as night shift supervisor until she retired in 1979. She loved her profession and spent 37 years doing what she loved to do, taking care of others. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Vera Jane Barlow Scott and brother George Barlow. She was the last surviving member of her family. Survivors include her daughters, Karen Pennington and Carmen Stuart and her “special sons” Richard Worley and Richard Pennington. She is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Joshua Pennington, and Sharlie and Jordan Stuart; and nieces and nephews, Homer Scott, Rita Scott, Becky Ganley, Harry Barlow, Susan Smith and Ann Oldenberg. Laura also loved and greatly appreciated her Hospice Compassus nurses and caretakers. Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with Minister Gary Lamie officiating. Burial will follow with Joshua Pennington, Richard Pennington, Richard Worley, Rodney Worley, and Kevin Crane will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
