William “Bill” S. Whitt, 89, of Crumpler, West Virginia passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the home of his daughter surrounded by family. Bill was born on January 24, 1927 in Crumpler, West Virginia to the late George and Mary Bradley Whitt. Bill served his county in WWII with the US Army. He was a retired coal miner after 30 years. Bill was a member of UMWA and Crumpler United Methodist Church and had been a lifelong resident of Crumpler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Whitt, one granddaughter Holly; two brothers and six sisters. Survivors include his daughter Rebecca D. Bailey and husband Richard of Crumpler, West Virginia, One son William S. Whitt, Jr and wife Candice of Marion, Virginia and one Sister Charlotte Harrison of Rhode Island. He is also survived by four grandchildren granddaughter Juleigh Bailey and husband Todd and grandsons Adam Bailey and wife Mercedes Granddaughters Heather Thomas and husband Wes, Summer Stone and husband Jason, he is also survived by seven great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Mark Smearman and Olen Robertson officiating the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia where The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. His Grandsons and great grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. The Whitt family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, June 25, 2016 from 1:30 p.m. until the time of Bill’s service at 3:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), West Virginia.
