Nancy J. Ameli, of Bluewell, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at her residence. Nancy was the first born child of Nick and Mary Piconi Ameli. She was born in Welch, WV, where the family lived until 1947 when they moved to Bluewell where she resided until her death.
Survivors include: Sister, Christina Willis and spouse, William (Bill) and Brother, Nick Ameli, Jr., and spouse, Jeanne. Having no children of her own, Nancy loved and adored her nieces and nephews treating them like her grandchildren. Nieces and nephews include: Sandra Lee Arczynski, William Vincent Willis, Daniel Ameli, Carol Ameli Havens, Deborah Ameli Froy and step-niece, Barbara Ann Willis.
Nancy graduated from Beaver High School and Bluefield College with a degree in Business Science. While attending Bluefield College, Nancy began working at the Bluefield Sanitarium until her retirement from the now Bluefield Regional Medical Center in October, 2010 after 56 years with one employer.
She was Executive Secretary to the many CEO's beginning with Mr. James Foster until the time the hospital was sold to the new owners. Upon her retirement, the hospital Board Room was named in her honor for the many hours spent taking minutes of their meetings.
Nancy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bluefield teaching Second Grade Religion Class on Sunday mornings; a member of the National Secretaries Association, Red Hat Ladies, National Sons of Italy and Bluewell Lions Club, serving as Publicity Chair.
Nancy's father, Nick Sr., was the only family member of his family that came to the US and to become a US citizen. Being proud of her Italian heritage, Nancy made many enjoyable trips to Italy to visit her father's family to learn more about his heritage.
Also surviving are her personal caregiver, Sandra Green and the staff of Amedisys Hospice Care.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm with Christian Wake service at 8 pm at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Elpidio Geneta officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with nephews serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy's honor to Amedisys Hospice, 3879 Maple Acres Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
