James W. “J.W.” Holbrook, 97, of Bluefield, Virginia went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 31, 2016. J.W. was born on January 10, 1919 in Gratton, Virginia. He was the son of the late Randolph and Mamie Wagner Holbrook. J.W. had been a 50 + year member of the Harmon Masonic Lodge in Bluefield, Virginia, Past Master of Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Virginia. He was a member of the VFW Post 9696 in Bluefield, Virginia. James served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps from 1941 to 1945. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Denver and Doc Holbrook; two sisters Thelma King and Cassie Carter; and three daughters. He is the last survivor of his immediate family. Survivors Include: His loving wife of 42 years Glenda Belcher Holbrook of the home Daughter: Linda Montgomery of Nicholasville, Kentucky Stepson: Gary Taylor of Bristol, VA According to his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Graveside Rites will be held on Monday, April 04, 2016 at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, West Virginia where VFW Post #9696 Bluefield, Virginia and American Legion Post #14 Pocahontas, Virginia will be conducting military graveside rites. Friend and family will be serving as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery at the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Bluefield West Virginia Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 311, Bluefield, WV.
