For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. Romans 14:8 Titus Eugene Cassell North Tazewell – Titus Eugene Cassell, 70, of 142 Montclair Circle Road, North Tazewell, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Salem VA Medical Center. Born November 14, 1945 in Keystone, WV, he was the late son of Titus and Velma Cassell of Nippa, KY. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather (paw paw) and a dedicated member of the Bluefield Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his three sisters, Janet Hawley, Nancy Herring and Barbara Davis. Left to cherish his memory are wife and best friend of 46 years Karen Cassell and his loving and dedicated son, Chris Cassell and wife Traci who was more of a daughter than daughter in-law, and his cherished grandchildren Taylor and Brady of Dallas, GA who were the joy of his life. He is also survived by his sister Phyllis Herring and husband Hubert of Lumberton, NC, and Aunt Ruth Vanhoose Cassell of Nippa, KY, sister in-law Patty Peretti of Bluefield, WV and three nieces, Michelle Johnson, husband Thomas, great nephews Chase, Jennings, and Colby of Lumberton, NC. Kimberly McNeil, husband Tim, great nephews Reese and Weston of Raleigh, NC. Karen Michelle Newman, husband Bill, great niece Kayla Dillow of Bluefield, VA, and four nephews, Vernon (Trey) Gillenwater, III of Oak Island, NC. Anthony Domenic Peretti, wife Gray, great nephew Eli of Bluefield, VA. Chad Pickett, wife Dr. Meredith of Tuscumbia, AL. Matthew Peretti of Bluefield, WV. He was also survived by cousins Mary Jane Ball and Jim Dotson of Bluefield, VA, many cousins in Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky, and special friends Larry and Louise Meadows of North Tazewell, VA. Eugene grew up in Burke Holler near Keystone, WV and was a graduate of Northfork Elkhorn High School class of 1965. After high school he went on to proudly serve the United States Marine Corp obtaining the rank of Corporal. He went on to serve in the Vietnam War receiving numerous medals and commendations. Eugene went to work for Eastern Coal Association at Keystone Mine, Keystone, WV for 14 years. Eugene continued his career at Consolidation Coal Company (Consol) at Buchanan #1 near Grundy, VA and retired after 20 years. One of his great enjoyments was shooting Trap with all of his friends at Tri-Angle Gun Club in Bluefield, VA. He enjoyed traveling to various Trap shooting events throughout the east coast. He volunteered at the Sacred Heart Church pantry during the week. His most enjoyed time was traveling with his wife to spend time with his son and his family. Funeral services to celebrate Eugene’s life will be conducted on Monday, March 7, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield, WV with Father Elpidio Geneta presiding. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, WV. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jim Dotson, Keith Tabor, Phillip Earls, Larry Meadows, Jeff Zamberlan, and Lou Ercoline. Military honors provided by the Marine Corps honor guard. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations may be made to Tri-Angle Gun Club, PO Box 147, Bluefield, VA 24065 or the food pantry at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1003 Wyoming St, Bluefield, WV 24701.
