James "Jimmy" Richard Thompson

James Richard “Jimmy” Thompson, age 68, of Bluefield, VA passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. Jimmy was born on June 13, 1947 to the late Glen and Jean Thompson. He was a lifelong resident of Bluefield. He served in the US Army doing a tour of duty in Vietnam. He worked with his father and brother for many years at Thompson Brothers Meat Packing Company and Thompson Farms in Burkes Garden, VA. He later drove for Cable Transport of Catawba, NC before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion and attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Bluefield, VA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bobby” Thompson; his sister, Reta Thompson; and both paternal and maternal grandparents. He was the last surviving member of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Jimmy will be sadly missed by his many friends, especially his two best buddies, “Daisy” and “Cooper” who were always with him. Those left to cherish his memory include: His wife of 47 years: Linda Akers Thompson of the home Daughters: Hilaree Wilkinson and husband Todd of Mooresville, NC Stacey Mulkey and husband Scott of Roanoke, VA Kelly Janutolo of Bluefield, VA 7 Grandchildren whom he adored: Taylor Janutolo, Dani Janutolo, Jared Janutolo, Adam Wilkinson, Noah Wilkinson, Jack Mulkey and Abby Mulkey. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Bluefield-Tazewell Road in Bluefield, VA with Rev. Steve Aker officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Military Graveside Honors will be performed by VFW Post 9696 of Bluefield, VA and American Legion Post 14 of Pocahontas, VA. Serving as pallbearers will be David Hicks, Scott Mulkey, Todd Wilkinson, Richard Vogel, Wayne Janutolo and Larry Hart. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Pauley, Jim Wilkinson, Harry Jones and Ronnie Devor. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6-8 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell and at the church one hour prior to the service.
