Fred Alvin Speaks, 91, of New Hope Road, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at his home.
He was born on September 1, 1924 and had been a resident of Bluefield for the past 16 years and was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was a member of the VFW, DMV, and American Legion. He was a retired businessman and inventor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nadine “Scotty” Speaks and a daughter, Cathy Durham; and a brother, Robert Speaks.

Son in law: Fred Durham of Manassas, VA
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 3:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Ken Sprinkle officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Bluefield Post 9696 and the American Legion Post #14.
Burial will follow at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may call on Saturday from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home.
