Franklin D. Martin, 73, of Spencer Curve, Anawalt, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home. He was born on August 2, 1942 in Pageton, WV. He was a retired coal miner for US Steel with 37.5 years and was a member of the UMWA. He was a past assistant Fire Chief and volunteer for the Anawalt Fire Dept. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Stella Simpkins Martin; a son, Richard Dale Martin; and 2 brothers, Billy Martin and James H. Martin. He is survived by: Daughter: Kimberly Carty (Michael) of Richlands, VA 4 sisters: Marilyn Ferris of Albermarle, NC Joan Akers (Jackie) of Salisbury, NC Paulette Butler of Thorpe, WV Joyce Carque (Mike) of Ormond Beach, FL 6 brothers: Richard Martin (Leah Mae) of Athens, WV Dan Martin (Wilma) of Colorado Springs, CO Donald “Ed” Martin (Mary) of Salisbury, NC Roger Martin of Welch, WV Douglas Martin of Dolomite, AL Norman Martin (Phyllis) of Noblesville, IN 2 sisters in law: Sylvia Martin of Carthage, IN Linda Martin of Kokomo, IN 1 grandchild: Brittany Cart 1 great grandchild: Trynton Cruey 2 special nieces: Paula Martin and Patricia Knott A host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews Longtime friends: Debbie Hamilton and Jim “Super” Flannigan Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Richard Allen Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where Danny Bryant, Bailey Bryant, Dustin Knott, Jack Martin, Danny Ray Martin, and Charles Elmore, Jr.. Ivy Mitchem, Jim “Super” Flannigan, and Roger Johnson will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
