Mrs. Elizabeth Lovett, 92, passed away January 19, 2016 at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born November 26, 1923 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Loomis and Gladys Rees Haynes. Elizabeth graduated from Welch High School in 1941 and attended Marshall College and received her BA in 1945. In 1947 she was employed by the McDowell County Board of Education. She retired from her teaching career at Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland, Kentucky. While living in Huntington West Virginia, Elizabeth was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital and was active at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church where the Presbyterian Women recognized her work with an Honorary Life Membership. Elizabeth and Charles moved to Winston-Salem in 2006 where she resided until her death. During this time she was an integral member of the Creekside Terrace Independent Living Community.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Charles T. Lovett, her four brothers, William “Bill” Haynes, Loomis “Ed “Haynes, Jr, Jack Lee Haynes and George Thomas Haynes, preceded her in death She is survived by her sister Susan Haynes Harrison (Dave), and Michael Haynes (Mary). Elizabeth is also survived by her three children, Elizabeth Lovett Sproles and husband George of Tucson Arizona, Nina Lovett Cassidy, of Winston-Salem, NC and William B. Lovett III and wife Linda of Cincinnati, Ohio, six grandchildren: Meredith Kendall Allen (Jason) of Frankfort Ky., Cynthia Cassidy and Michael Cassidy, (Jennifer) of Winston-Salem, NC and Christopher, Geoffrey, and Kaitlyn Lovett of Cincinnati Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Austin and Jayce Cassidy of Winston-Salem, NC and Kendall Allen of Frankfort Kentucky.
Services will be held Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home with Rev. Susan Harrison and Rev. John Haynes officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service at the funeral home.
