John Bodner

November 5, 1925 — January 7, 2016

John "Buck" Bodner, Sr., age 90, of McDonough, GA and formerly of Elkhorn, WV, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, GA after a brief illness. Born on November 5, 1925 in Worth, WV he was the son of the late Mike and Julia Parada Bodner. He was a graduate of Elkhorn High School and a proud veteran of the US Marines, serving with the 6th Marines in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a retired mine foreman for US Steel at #2 Gary and #50 Pinnacle where he was well respected. He was a lifetime sports fan and always had many pets and animals enjoying his care. He was a member of the Welch Masonic Lodge, Shriners International, and a Noble with Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston, WV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his dear wife of 55 years Dorothy Dalton Bodner and his two wonderful sisters Annie Helen Bodner Haluski and Margaret Bodner Wilk. He forever missed them. Survivors include 2 sons John Bodner, Jr and wife Catherine of McDonough, Ga and David Andrew Bodner and wife Randi of Charleston, WV. Two grandsons one great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 12th, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Randall Topping officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation for friends and family will be on Monday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
