…TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY AND TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD. 2 Corinthians 5:8 RUBY J. (BOWMAN) HUNTER, age 93 of Anawalt, WV went to be with our Heavenly Father Monday, January 4, 2016 at Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, WV. She was born in Mohegan, WV on August 2, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Ernest Whittemore and Ella Mae Day. She lived and raised her children in Horsepen, VA and they were her pride and joy. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Horsepen, VA. She relocated to Tampa, FL where she worked at Busch Gardens and was a beautician at The Towers for the elderly in Tampa, FL. She returned to McDowell County where she lived in Elbert, WV from 1998 until 2012. She spent her remaining years with her loving daughter and caretaker in Anawalt, WV. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend to everyone she came in contact with. She was a hard worker who sacrificed anything and everything for her children. Ruby was of the Pentecostal Faith and looked forward to being with her Lord and Savior in “Glory Land.” Besides her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Hunter; sisters, Virginia “Jenny” Blasher and Mildred Day; and step-brother, Ora Parsons. She is survived by her son, Ernest Bowman and wife Sandy of Bluefield (Falls Mills), VA; daughter and caregiver, JoAnn Farmer and husband Donald “Duck” of Anawalt, WV; two granddaughters, Rebecca Bowman of Bluefield (Falls Mills), VA and Nancy Wooldridge of Anawalt, WV; two grandsons, Michael Wooldridge, Sr. and wife Neva of Concord, NC and Charles Bowman and wife Amy of Reidsville NC; four great-granddaughters, Alexandra Bowman and Emily Bowman of Reidsville, NC and Kera Brindle and Leah Brindle of Concord, NC; one great-grandson, Michael Wooldridge, Jr of Kannapolis, NC; and one great-great-grandson, Braylen Riley of Concord, NC. She also leaves behind special friend, Rose Mitchem; and Ruby’s loving pet, Mitsi as well as a host of extended family and friends. Ruby was a special and caring lady loved by all who knew her. She was spunky and could always tell a great story. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was such a blessing to us. Honoring Ruby’s wishes, there will be a one-day service at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV on Saturday, January 9, 2016, with Pastor Jerry Graham officiating. Friends may call at noon; Family at 11:00am. Service will start at 1:00pm. She will then be laid to rest at The Garden of the Cross in Grandview Memory Gardens located at 38659 Gov. Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Wooldridge and Charles Bowman.
