Phillip Roger Canoy

Lebanon, VA—On Saturday, December 5, 2015, our Heavenly Father called Phillip Roger Canoy to eternal rest after a brief but difficult battle with cancer. Phillip was born on November 19, 1938 in Switchback. He graduated from Northfork High School and served his country in the US Air Force. He worked for the FBI for a short time and then settled with the United States Postal Service, which he retired after 30+ years. Phillip was an excellent photographer with one of his favorite subjects being his family, particularly his children. He was also an avid birdwatcher and gardener. He often incorporated his expertise behind the camera lens with the birds and flowers in his yard. Phillip was a big fan of the Mountaineers and the Yankees and enjoyed catching any game that he could. He was preceded in death by two sons, Paul David and Daniel Phillip’ his parents, Dorothy Osborne Canoy Smith and Marle Canoy; his stepfather, John “Red” Smith; and his brother, Tommy Canoy. Philip leaves behind Teresa Shrader of Bluefield Daughter: Susannah Sparks and husband Harold of Bluefield Son: Nicholas Canoy and wife Melissa of the home Grandson: Zachary Sparks of Bluefield Lifelong friend and loving companion: Jane Comer of the home Extended family: Josh and Paige Honaker and their children Kaylie, Kaleb & Konor & Jack and Kayla Honaker and their daughter, Kennedy Mass of Christian Burial for family and friends will be celebrated on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield with Father Elpidio Geneta officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell.
