Mary Ellen Jones

"Nevertheless, I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel and afterward, you will take me into glory." Mary Ellen Kade Jones of Deerfield Subdivision, Bluefield, Virginia, passed away at Bluefield Regional Medical Center on Monday, August 3, 2015, following a short illness. Mary was born in Bluefield, WV on December 28, 1920, to the late James E. Kade and Hallie Thompson Kade Hedrick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by brothers, Miles Kade, Dewey Kade, Ernest Kade, Carl Kade and John Kade, and by sisters, Hazel Miller, Clara Taylor and Eva Riggs. She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Jones, as well as a grandson, Ricky L. Slade, and a son-in-law, Sherman J. Horton. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Jones Horton, with whom she made her home, of Bluefield Virginia; Linda Jones Slade and husband, Bobby, of Bluefield, Virginia, and Connie Jones Fortuna and husband, Tony, of Ormond Beach, Florida; grandsons, Michael B. Slade of Brooklyn, NY, Rodney J. Hedrick and wife, April, of Lake Mary, Florida and David L. Slade and wife, Teresa of Bluefield, Virginia, and two great grandsons, Jamie Slade of Pulaski, Virginia, and Jake Slade of Bluefield, Virginia. Mary was a faithful member of the Maple View Church of Christ, as long as health permitted. She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and a member of the Don't Mention Age group for seniors. She maintained her sharp wit a sense of humor and her sweet smile. Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 12:30PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Tony Reed officiating Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00-12:30 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Michael Slade, Rodney Hedrick and David Slade; great grandsons, Jamie Slade and Jake Slade, and good friend, John Lawrence. Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
