James Reece “Greek” Asbury, Sr., 88, of Clovis Street, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born on July 7, 1927 in Tazewell, VA, he was a son of the late Charles and Emma Lou Waddell Asbury. He had been a resident of Bluefield for 35 years and was a member of the Princeton Apostolic Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served in World War II. He was a retired coal miner and foreman and was a member of the UMWA. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was a wonderful person.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Naomi Asbury.

11 grandchildren; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren
Brothers: Roy Asbury of Mt. Airy, NC
Norman Asbury and Judy of Salem, VA
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Scott Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA where family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Navy Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
