Charles "Vernon" Cartwright

Charles “Vernon” Cartwright, Jr. , age 68, of Newton, NC and formerly of Leckie, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Catawba Regional Hospice House in Newton, NC. Vernon will be sadly missed by the Roberts family and friends. Born on August 19, 1946 in Welch, he was a son of the late Charles V. Cartwright and Sylvia Pauline Pettus Cartwright. He was a member of the Boyd’s Chapel Methodist Church in Leckie. He had been a resident of Leckie for most of his life and had spent the last 16 years in Hiddenite and Taylorsville, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred & Edna Cartwright and John and Jennie Pettus. Survivors include: Sister: Paula C. Roberts and husband Herman Roberts, Jr. of Hiddenite, NC Nephew: Trey Roberts of Hiddenite, NC Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Dallas Peyton officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Saturday from 6-8 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.
