Rev. George Johnston

SANDLICK- On May 29, 2015, Rev. George H. Johnston was wrapped in the arms of the Angels and carried to Heaven to receive his Heavenly wings. George was born to the late George Andrew and Martha (O'Donnell) Johnston in Duhring, WV. In 1951, George met and later married the love of his life in 1955, Emma (Barnette) Johnston. He was a faithful and loving husband for 591/2 years. George dedicated his life to serving God and was a member of AFMC and was a pastor for 51 years, most recently at Calvary Tabernacle. While holding the hand of his loving wife Emma, he raised his other hand toward Heaven, and as a tear slid slowly down his cheek, he was welcomed into Heaven. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Charles Eugene Johnston, Willis Allen Johnson, and William Johnson; 3 sisters: Molly Poole, Marv Riley, and Bernice Dove; 2 sons-in- laws: Gary Dunford and Leslie Payne; and his in laws Hugh and Mabel Barnette. He left to cherish his memory his loving wife Emma and 6 wonderful children: Genevieve (Curtis) Dunford of Wytheville, VA; Deborah (Mike) Compton, Beverly (Brian) Walker, Teresa Dunford, all of Bluefield, WV; Orville (Carmen) Johnston, of San Angelo, TX; Karen Payne and companion Keith Bailey of Princeton, WV; 14 grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Samuels, Dustin (Courtney) Dunford, Lindsey Compton, Krysta!(Mike) Ford, Cody Walker and fiancee Kim Bennett, Tiffany Walker, Daniel Walker, Brandon (Amy) Dunford; Derek Dunford and fiancee Amber Ellison, Emalee Dunford, George N. Johnston, Geoffrey Johnston, Amanda (Jamie) Brown, Kevin (Stephanie) Payne; 11 great grandchildren: Joshua, Ky!e, Ellison, Brooklyn, Michael, Noah, Mackenzie; Serenity, Jack, Warren, and Letty; Siblings, Myrtle Pannell of Plant City, FL; Elbren (Carol) Johnson of Fredercksburg, VA, Mildred Beasley of Jacksonville, FL, Gracie Wimmer of Thomasville, NC, David Johnston of Stickleyville, VA, and Kenneth (Brenda) Johnston of Princeton, WV; and Special friend: Walter Price. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Princeton Church of God, 205 Oakvale Road, Princeton, WV, with Rev. Eddie Johnson and Rev. Brandon Dunford officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV where Cody Walker, Derek Dunford, George N. Johnston, Geoffrey Johnston, Dustin Dunford, and Michael Ford will serve as pallbearers. Kevin Payne will serve as honorary pallbearer. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Princeton Church of God, 205 Oakvale Road, Princeton, WV.
