Ellen "Janie" Akers

Ellen Jane “Janie” Akers, 80 of Bluefield WV, died May 24, 2015 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Ellen was born February 10, 1935 in Bluefield, to the late Orville Denver Sutphin and Lector Mae Goforth Sutphin. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymon Harless Akers Jr. Janie was a lifelong resident of the area working at many area restaurants and bakeries; the last being K&W Cafeteria where she had over 20 years of service before retiring in 2011. She was a member of Midway Church of Christ. Janie was a beautiful person inside and out and she never met a stranger. Janie will be lovingly remembered by her family and the many people she met while working at K&W. Survivors include her son, Denver Ray Akers and wife Debbie Akers of Bluefield WV; daughter Vickie Denise Bishop and late Sonny Bishop of Bluefield, WV; grandson Shannon Denver Akers and fiancee Orena Cox of Bluefield WV; granddaughter Bridget Lynae Neal of Bluefield WV. In addition, Janie leaves behind her special aunt Eva Sutphin whom she considered her second mother; cousins she called "sisters" and "brothers", Sylvia and Raymond Wimmer, Betty and Charlie Thomas, Delana and Tom Gibson, Jimmy and Debbie Sutphin and Linda and Ralph Modena as well as a host of other cousins. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Tony Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV Pallbearers will be: Jimmy Sutphin, Matthew Sutphin, Rex Ratliff David Rhinehart, David Burgess, George Thomason. Honorary Pallbearer is Dale Mitchell. Friends may call Tuesday from between 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
