Ethel Brown Grego Alger, 95, of High Point, NC, died peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, April 30, 2015, at her residence. Born January 31, 1920 in West Jefferson, NC. Ethel was the daughter of the late Emory and Eula Brown. She was preceded in death by husbands, Fortunato Grego and William “Al” Alger. six brothers; Edward, Gwin, Willard, Robert, Burman and Gale Brown, sons in law; Buford Muncy, Wayne P Lockhart, Bill Lyons, Rex Dykes, and Ron Compton. One step-son, Harold “Andy” Alger. She is survived by her two daughters, Mary Virginia Muncy Little, (David), and Joan Lockhart Compton, both of High Point, step daughter Billie Alger Dykes of Chesterfield, VA. eight grandchildren; Greg Muncy, (Patty) of Carson, VA, Patrick Muncy, (Laura) of Midlothian, VA, John Muncy, (Pam) of High Point, Billy Muncy of Cincinnati, OH, Melissa Touchstone, (James) of Newport News, VA, Cecil Muncy, (Marianne) of High Point, Rose Carter, (Paul, Sr) of Lenoir City, TN, Amy Lockhart Scott of Bluefield, VA. step grandson Kevin Dykes of Richmond, VA, 23 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers; Jack Brown, (Billie) of Milford, DE and Jerry Brown, (Gail) of High Point, sisters; Jean Shell (Bill) , Catherine Gilbert and Mary Leppo all of Maryland, sisters-in-law Betty Brown of Bluefield, WV and Mary Lou Brown of Maryland Mrs. Alger worked at several ladies fine specialty shops and always appreciated fine apparel. She was a member of Covenant Church United Methodist in High Point where she served on the Stephens Ministry team and worked in the kitchen and was a member of the Morningstar Circle. She was a volunteer at High Point Regional Hospital. Mrs. Alger was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Bluefield, WV. She took up bowling at 65 and won many awards. Ethel’s most recent days were spent enjoying solitaire on her iPad. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 03, 2015 at Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, WV where the family will greet friends Sunday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm followed by funeral services in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials by be given to Covenant Church United Methodist, 1526 Skeet Club Road, High Point, NC 27265.
