Betty June Goins

Betty June Goins, 76, of Gary, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at her daughter Rena’s home where she had been living for the past 7 months. Born on May 19, 1938 in Gary, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Virginia Phillips Powell. She had been a resident of Gary since childhood. She formerly worked as a business manager at the Gary Bantam Market. On April 6 of this year, her beautiful first born daughter, Kathy Phillips, passed away unknown to her, but we believe this was to guide our mother home. In addition to her parents, and Kathy, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Goins and her in-laws, Haywood and Emma Goins. Survivors include: Daughters: Rena Finley and husband Lee of Bluefield Debbie Roberts and husband Carl of Burlington, NC Ginger Rose and husband Chuck of Bluewell Sisters: June Law and Frances Rhoden of Jacksonville, FL Brother: Benny Powell of Jacksonville, FL Son in law: Daniel Phillips of Honey Bee Lane, Gary 5 grandsons and 3 granddaughters 10 great grandchildren Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 2:00PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. David Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with grandsons and great grandsons serving as pallbearers. A memorial dinner will follow services at the Bramwell United Methodist Church.
