Floyd Ray Helmondollar, 81, of Montcalm, WV received his final, ultimate reward as he took his last breath at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, April 15. Born on July 18, 1933 in Newhall, WV, Ray was the second son of the late Jim Ed and Ruby Shrader Helmondollar.
He was a 1951 graduate of Bramwell High School and was also a graduate of Dale Carnegie School of Public Speaking and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology. He was a United States Army Veteran, having served during the Korean War, and retired from Pocahontas Welding Supply. He was a faithful member of the Montcalm Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krislin Helmondollar.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Shirley Duncan Helmondollar; a daughter, Michelle (and husband Bryan) Flinchum of Lashmeet; a son, Terry (and wife Rhonda) Helmondollar of Montcalm; four grandsons, Travis (and wife Victoria) Helmondollar of Princeton, Joshua (and wife Sarah) Helmondollar of Zionsville, Indiana, Brandon (and fiancé Brandi Moore) Flinchum of Gardener, and Bradley Flinchum of Lashmeet; one granddaughter, Audrie Helmondollar of Montcalm; one great-grandson, Nikolas Flinchum; four brothers, Donald, Willis (Linda Miller), Curtis (Virginia), and Jim Ed (Rosemary); and a special brother-in-law, Gary Duncan.
Services will be held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home on Friday, April 17 at 7:00PM with Rev. Eddie Via officiating. The family will receive loved ones 6:00 – 8:00PM. The Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard will conduct the interment service at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Saturday, April 18 at 10:00AM. Family and friends wishing to attend are asked to be at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home at 9:30AM.
Pallbearers are Terry Helmondollar, Bryan Flinchum, Travis Helmondollar, Joshua Helmondollar, Brandon Flinchum, and Bradley Flinchum; honorary pallbearers are Audrie Helmondollar and Gary Duncan.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family are asked to make a donation in Ray's honor to Montcalm Elementary Bible in the Schools, Rt. 2 Box 35, Rock, WV 24747.
