Gladys Ruth Mitchem, 86, of Generosity Street, Anawalt, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Welch Community Hospital.
Born on December 23, 1928 in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Eliza Mitchem Presley. She had been a lifelong resident of Anawalt and was formerly employed at the Beryl Shop, Cox’s Dept. Store and Franklin’s Dairy in Welch and the Country Club in Skygusty.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Helen Pickett; a brother, Walter “Midge” Presley, Jr.; and her husbands, Ward Long, Sr., Bill Breeden, and Glen Mitchem.

7 grandchildren and 3.5 great grandchildren
Special friends: Hospice Compassus of Welch; Dr. Toler of Welch Community Hospital and the staff of Golden harvest in Welch
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Donnie Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where Tony Belcher, Jr. Long, EJ Bolen, Joe Craig, and Bobby Thompson will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 at the funeral home.
