Bertha Louise Havens Mitchem, 83, of Kirby Addition Road, Princeton, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Serenity Place in Lerona. She had lived in Crumpler for many years before moving to Princeton. She was born on January 10, 1932 in Crystal, she was a daughter of the late Willie Guy and Mamie Hancock Havens. Bertha had worked at Hill’s Dept. Store for many years serving customers at the service desk. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking and canning foods from the garden. She loved cooking for her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Blonnie Kyle Mitchem in 2010; two sisters, Ethel Shrader and Katherine Gills; and three brothers, Willie Havens, Ernest Havens, and Robert “Bob” Havens. She will be greatly missed by: Her daughter: Debbie Minnix and husband Bob of Princeton Her only grandson and her pride and joy: Bobby “Bo” Minnix, Jr. and wife Jessica of Huntington Her great grandson who was the bundle of joy: Kile Leander Minnix of Huntington Sister: Eleanor Taylor and husband Woodie of Delaware Several nieces and nephews Special friends: Linda Bowling and Ruby Munsey Her extended family at Serenity Place who gave her loving care Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Steve Rector officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Smokey Havens, Scott Havens, Budgee Havens, Doug Carner, Rodney Mitchem and Ronnie Minnix will serve as pallbearers. Bobby “Bo” Minnix, Jr. will serve as honorary pallbearer. Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
