Bennie Mitchell Belcher

Bennie M. Belcher, 88, of Bluefield, WV formerly of Algoma, left to meet his maker, on Wednesday, March 04, 2015. He was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Belcher of Algoma, WV. He was the last of his generation. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years Mabel Belcher; Brothers Clarence, Alvin and Earnest Belcher and a sister Hydreth. Bennie was a member of the United Mine Workers of America for 70 years and former president of Local 6183 of Algoma. Bennie was renowned musician, a guitar player coming from a very talented family of musicians. He last played publicly with Cecil Surrat. Bennie was also an avid hunter. Known for his sense of humor, he always entertained his friends with his jokes and stories. He is survived by his son David Belcher and wife Suzanne of Bluefield, WV; and grandson Jason Belcher and wife Tamra of Fredericksburg, VA; and his very special friend and constant companion for many years Shirley Palmer. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 07, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), WV with Rev. Craig Hammond officiating the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell, WV where friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may pay their respects at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), WV on Friday, March 06, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
