James Hobert Wimmer

James Hobert Wimmer, 88, of 1800 Whitethorn Extension, Bluefield, WV, formerly of Bradshaw, WV, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 21,2015. He passed peacefully at Bluefield Regional Hospital with family by his side. James was the owner and operator of Wimmer Service & Supply in Bradshaw, WV and retired in 1991. He was a former member of the Bradshaw Church of God and current member of the East River Assembly of God in Bluefield, VA. He served in the US Army under General Patton in Europe from 1944-1946. He was a 58 year charter member of American Legion Post #175 in Bradshaw and received several awards for his service. He was a former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #188 in Bradshaw and former member of the Lions Club in Bradshaw and the VFW in Iaeger, WV. James was born January 24, 1926 in Jolo, WV and was the twelfth of thirteen children born to the late Gus and Melvina Wimmer. He is preceded in death by seven brothers- Ellis, Wallace, Witcher, Oscar, Columbus, Homer and Tommy Wimmer; four sisters- Gracie Cooper, Ida Kennedy, Eliza Hagerman, and Ruby Harness. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Owens Wimmer, four children-James (Donna) Wimmer of Prosperity, SC, Linda Thomas of Gilbert, SC, Brenda Ratliff, of Bluefield, WV, Joseph (Lisa) Wimmer of Davin, WV. Also survived by eight grandchildren-Tracey Bailey, Lewis Thomas II, David Thomas, Brian Wimmer, Megan Martin, Danielle King, Breanna Wimmer, Brett Wimmer; thirteen great-grandchildren- Lauren Bailey, Brandon Bailey, Ethan Bailey, Lewis Thomas III, Olivia Thomas, David Thomas II, Leah Wimmer, Gaston Wimmer, Conner Martin, Cillian Martin, Kiara King, Branden King II, and Allanuh King; one brother-Victor Wimmer, a special sister-in-law, Nancy Wimmer and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6-9pm at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV. Funeral services will be officiated by Pastor Tim Boyd, Saturday, January 24,2015 at l:00 pm at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home followed by a military service and entombment at Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Princeton, WV. Pallbearers are Brian Wimmer, Brett Wimmer, Lewis Thomas, David Thomas, Thomas Wimmer and Chris Bailey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Disabled Veterans of America, the Paralyzed Veterans of America or the charity of your choice.
