Virgie "Shon" Barnett, 95, of Gary, West Virginia passed away Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Center in Jamestown, NC where she lost a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was
surrounded by her family.
Born February 12th. 1919 she was the daughter of the late William and Mattie Duncan Phillips. Virgie was a lifelong member of the #10 Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Vice-President of the Ladies Auxiliary, Choir Director and Deacon.
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Alfred M. Barnett, and her son Alfred M. Barnett, Jr. and great grandson Christopher St. Hilaire and six brothers: George, Frank, Charles, Joe, Wade "Skeet" and Houston "Bus" Phillips; and six sisters: Nannie Rose, Virginia Powell, Ida Marie Carter, Pearl Mae Castle, Hattie M. Gravely and Gertie Barnes.
Survivors include:
Loving Daughter Wanda Barnett Chapman and her husband Joe Chapman of Kernersville, NC.
Two granddaughters: Donna Brown of Kernersville, North Carolina
Shawn Barnett of Hillsville, Virginia
Two grandsons: Victor Barnett and Michael Barnett of Manassas, Virginia
Six great grandchildren: Tiffany Brown, Steven St.Hilaire, Justin Barnett,
Amanda Barnett, Victor Barnett, Jr. and Cassidy Barnett.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. James Tunnell officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
