Howard "Papa Dink" Shrader

Howard “Papa Dink” Shrader, 82, of Bluewell passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at his home. Born October 31, 1932 in Bluewell, he was the son of the late Howard Freeman Shrader and Martha Ayers Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Curry Shrader, his daughter Tammy Shrader Manuel, and his son Howard Lee “Dink” Shrader. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Michael Shrader and bride Susan of Bluefield, his daughter Lori Shrader Mills and husband Jeff of Bluefield, daughter-in-law Susan Shrader of Bluewell, brother Richard Shrader and wife Etta Lee of Green Valley, one sister Judy Casiano and husband José of Tennessee, and one brother Gary Hawkins and wife Tammy of Ohio. Three grandchildren Ashley Manuel of Gaithersburg, MD, Sarah Shrader of Bluewell, WV, and Jake Mills of Bluefield, WV. Special pets Jack Russell Terrier Hobo and cat Goldie. He was a lifelong resident of Bluewell and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked many years at Hawley Fuel Corporation and was a member of the United Mine Workers Union of America. While at Hawley Fuel he worked at the preparation plant and also ran mobile equipment. He was quite proud of the fact that he could operate virtually any type of heavy equipment and in his later years enjoyed operating an old track loader that he acquired. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting and riding Harleys, and shooting matches. He was also no stranger to the taste of moonshine and enjoyed sharing laughter with family and friends. Memorial services will be held at Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Craven Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Revered Steve Rector officiating. Burial will follow at the Hale family cemetery in Bluewell. Mike Egnor, Dalton Egnor, Colton Egnor, Jamie Umberger, Mike Shoda, and Jackie Bovier will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers Kenny Young and JR Boothe. Friends may call at Craven-Shires Funeral home on Saturday, November 15, 2014 between 6 and 8 pm.
