Della Spriggs

Della Josephine Spriggs, 95, of 186 Timber Hill Drive, Princeton, WV, and formerly of Elbert, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014 at her home. Born on June 29, 1919 in McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Annie C. Widner Spriggs. She had been a resident of Princeton since 1999 and was of the Catholic faith. She was a graduate of Gary High School and the Virginia State Teachers College in Radford. She was a retired school teacher with 40 years from McDowell County Board of Education and had taught at Thorpe, Elbert and Gary Elementary Schools. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bernard Micheal, Charles, Roy, Johnny, and Uhel Spriggs; and sisters, May Barta, Sarah Warren, Helen Harless, Mabel Johnson, Jenny Lou Lindsey, Georgia Adams Hall, and Mag Blevins. She was the last surviving member of her family. Survivors include her niece and caregiver, Sarah Watts of Princeton Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 12:30 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Rev. Marvin McKinney officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Friends may call on Friday from 10:30-12:30 at the funeral home.
