Steve Merkle, Jr., 64, of Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, passed away at Princeton Community Hospital. He was promoted to his Heavenly Home on October 12, 2014.
Born on April 18, 1950 in Welch, he was a son of the late Steve Merkle, Sr. and Hazel Roe Merkle. He was a rural mail carrier for the Princeton post office and attended the Willowbrook Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Vietnam. He was an avid WVU and NY Giants fan. He was known as “Pops” by his grandson, Hunter, whom he enjoyed spending time with.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hamilton Merkle.

Daughter: Stephanie England and Herman of Princeton
Grandson: Hunter
Sister: Debra Fitzko and Beach of Bluewell
Brother: Don Merkle and wife Carrie of Bluefield
Several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Emory Marchant officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell where military honors will be performed by the Mercer County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00-1:00 at the funeral home.
