Freddie Gentry, 77, of Crumpler, WV died peacefully on September 5, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born in Crumpler, WV on September 23, 1936 and was the son of the late Roby S. and Daphna Gentry. Throughout his life he was known to his many friends as "Toe". Freddie was a veteran of the United States Army, after which he lived in both Florida and North Carolina for a short period working in the field of construction, until returning to West Virginia and working as a coal miner until retirement. He was a member of the UMWA. In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his brother James "Jimmy" Gentry and his grandson-in-Iaw, Timothy Rodino II. Left to cherish his memory are, his loving wife of 55 years, Bessie L. (Hall) Gentry, his son Aaron D. Gentry and a very special daughter-in-law (Donna) of Crumpler, WV; one grandson, Michael A. Gentry and wife Amy; two granddaughters, Victoria "Bug" Gentry and Joni E. Rodino; two great-granddaughters, Chloe Sabo and Leigha R. Gentry; three great-grandsons, Jacob White, Hunter Sabo and Kaden Gentry, all of Crumpler, WV; a sister-in-law, Wilma Gentry of Princeton, WV; two brothers, Leniel Gentry of Northfork, WV and Lonnie Gentry (Joyce) of Crumpler, WV; brother in law, Fairley (Pat) Hall of Crumpler; and three sisters in law, Juanita Rorrer of Hillsville, Shirley Rorrer of Crumpler, and Dorothy Dalton of Crumpler; and a host of other nieces, nephews and friends. Also surviving are special friends and caregivers, Dr. Qazi and his staff, and Pharmacist Ryan Leftwich and staff at Rite-Aid in Bluewell. Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 11:00AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Pastor Mark Smearman officiating. Burial will take place at Roselawn memorial Park in Princeton where the Mercer County Veteran’s Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call on Monday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
