Mary C. Romeo, age 90 of 3123 Cumberland Road, Bluefield, WV passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of August 4, 2014. Born on April 18, 1924 in Kimball, WV she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Angeline Larkin Romeo. Mary was preceded in death by her sister Lena Panzera, and brothers John L. Romeo, Sam V. Romeo, Tony J. Romeo and Joseph P. Romeo. In addition were her sister-in-law Creta Romeo, nephew Joseph P. Panzera III, and great nephews Joseph P. Panzera IV, and Craig B. Kirkham. Mary has been a resident of Bluefield for the last 10 years where she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was co-owner of Romeo Florist in Welch for 35 years with her brothers Tony and Joe. After retiring from the flower shop she worked as an office assistant with State Farm Insurance at the Jerry & Darrell McKinney Agency in Welch. Mary was very devout in her catholic faith and is now with our lord and the rest of her family in heaven. Mary was never married however she dedicated her life to being a care-giver for mother Angeline, and was always taking care of the numerous nieces and nephews whenever the need would arise. She was universally known as "Aunt Mary" to everyone that was fortunate enough to have been blessed by her presence. She never met a stranger and would always make anyone at her door feel welcome as if they had known her for years. Her only surviving relatives are her brother and sister-in-laws, Jane Romeo of Jackson, OH, Joe Panzera of Charleston, WV, Mitzi Romeo of Bluefield, WV, and Rose Romeo of Roanoke, VA. Mary has a total of 17 nieces and nephews and 33 great nieces and great nephews. Her most recent fond memory was her 90th surprise birthday, celebrated in April with 71 members of her family. Of course she had her "favorite" nieces and nephews including: Sandy Hudson of Orlando, FL, Mary Ann Walsh of Huntington, WV, Michael J. Romeo of Bluefield, her primary care giver over the last 10 years, Theresa Blevins of Roanoke, VA and Cecilia Miller of Roanoke, VA, and her great nephew, Joseph Romeo of Charleston, WV. Aunt Mary was also blessed by three special care givers in her life, Beatrice Dunn of Montcalm, WV and Rosanna Welch of Rock, WV, and Sandra L Cline of Bluefield, WV. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, from 6 - 8 pm with a Christian Wake service being conducted at 8:00 PM. A Catholic mass and funeral service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bluefield on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 11:00 am with, Father Elpidio Geneta presiding. Entombment will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Waterfall Mausoleum in Bluewell with Phillip Larkin, Phillip Panzera, Johnny, Joseph, Anthony, and Nick Romeo will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family would request that you make a donation to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1003 Wyoming Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
