James Delmer Herron, 84, of Harry Heights, Bluefield, WV, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield.
Born on September 30, 1929 in Providence, KY, he was a son of the late Delmer B. and Anna Laura McGaw Herron. In addition to graduating high school, he graduated from Bowling Green University as an accountant. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Brushfork United Methodist Church. He was a retired safety director for Smith Services and had also worked for various coal companies. He was a member of the Providence Masonic Lodge AF&AM, the Bluefield Shrine Patrol and the Beni-Keden Shrine in Charleston. He was active with the Bluefield Horse Show and was a driver for the crippled children’s van.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dottie Boswell.

Wife of 59 years: Shirley Tipton Herron of the home
Son: Jim Herron and wife Kathy of Sumter, SC
2 grandchildren: Hunter and Haley Herron
Sister: Betty Oakley of Henderson, KY
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Steve Rector and Rev. D. Homer Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with friends serving as pallbearers.
Friends may call on Monday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
