Larry Wayne Bailey, 62, of Gary (Elbert), formerly of Leckie, died Friday, June 27, 2014 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born, in Leckie, on March 5th 1952, he was the son of Wanda (Hodge) Hall and John A. Bailey of Leckie. Larry moved to Chicago with his family at a very young age and was raised by his mother, Wanda Hall and his stepfather, Donald Gene Hall. Larry returned to Leckie, in 1972, after serving in the United States Army. Larry was a Christian saved by God’s Amazing Grace. He is loved and will be missed by many. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Bailey and two nephews, Justin and Sean Bailey. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Theresa Dawn Bailey, of Modesto, CA; one granddaughter, Kyra Shoolman and husband Mike, one grandson, Jesse Esposito and one great grandson, Ayden Schoolman, all of Modesto, CA. One sister, Sherri Butterworth and husband, Eric, of Charles Town, WV; One brother, James A. Bailey, Sr. of Leckie; Sister-In-Law, Peggy Bailey; Nieces: Erin Bailey; Bridget Settle and Husband, Calvin and children, C J and Kelly; Nephew, James Bailey Jr. (Jamie) and wife Susan and their three children, Brooke, Brett & Kelsey, all of Leckie; One niece, Jessica Bailey, and her companion, Timmy Seal of Princeton. Two aunts: Brenda Fowler of Thorpe and Beulah “Toots” Hodge of Leckie; Several cousins and a host of friends including a very special friend, Nan Thompson of Gary and his caregiver, Carol Chaffins of Davy. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm on Monday, June 30th at Cravens- Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with Pastors, Richard Sturgell and Mary Lambert officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Those serving as pallbearers will be: Dean, Delmer, Colton and Jonathan Winebarger, Tom Parish, and Sammy Littleton. Friends may visit from 2 pm until time of his service on Monday.
