Tommy G. Thompson

Tommy G. Thompson, 70, of Princeton, WV passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday June 17, 2014 in Hospice care at Princeton Community Hospital. Born March 16, 1944 in Sophia, WV, he was a son of the late Homer A. and Agnes Mae Runions Thompson. Tommy was a Christian saved by Grace through faith. He was raised in Pearisburg, VA and Montcalm, WV. He attended Bluefield College and Virginia Tech, and graduated from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering. During his career he held positions at Thomasville Furniture, Ethan Allen, Atari, Inc., and Taylor Woodcraft, and was president of Whitford Furniture. He returned to Southern West Virginia in 1996 and was a resident of Princeton for the last 18 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Robert Houston and Lupe Thompson; one nephew, Lewis Stanton “Stan” Bowles; one brother-in-law Charlie White; his father-in-law, Curtis C. Lance; and his mother-in-law Vangie Lance Boyd and her husband Tommy Boyd. He is survived by his beloved daughter Susan Emmeline “Emme” Thompson of New York City. He has five surviving siblings, William E. (Ann), Richard C. (Mary Ann), Martha Jean (Alan) McMurry, Juanita (Jim) Cox, and David H. (Brandon Seifert) Thompson, and fourteen nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Howard and Susan Lance Troutner, Fred and Frances Lance Sparks, and Whitfield and Sue Lance. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV with Diane Hall conducting the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV where pallbearers and honorary pallbearers include Howard Wellman, Fred Sparks, Whitfield Lance, Alan McMurry, Jim Cox, Brandon Seifert, Howard Troutner, Ricky Sparks and Bo Keaton. Friends may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. until the time of his the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tommy’s favorite charity, Appalachian Teen Challenge, Inc., 1651 Unity Road, Princeton, WV, 24739, www.teenchallengecares.com.
