Donald Ray Dillon, born October 19, 1928, in Anawalt, West Virginia, passed away May 22, 2014. Donald Ray graduated from Gary High School at 16 years of age and worked on the Great Lakes as a Merchant Marine where he saved his money to put himself through college. He graduated from Concord College with a B.S. in Accounting. While at Concord College Don was President and Treasurer of his fraternity, Sigma Tau Gamma and an avid dancer. At a college dance Don met the love of his life, Nancy Jo Miller. They were married September 12, 1954 and were married for 59 years and 8 months at the time of his passing. After graduating college Don served in the Big Red 1 division of the U. S. Army for 2 years. Don had a distinguished career with the Internal Revenue Service for 28 years, after which he was a consultant with the Ft. Lauderdale law firm of Isley & Dereuil. Don also taught math at Big Creek High School, new hires at the Internal Revenue Service and Income Tax at Broward Community College. His passions included caring for his family, spending summers in Anawalt, WV with his mother, and playing golf at Gary Country Club. Don served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for the Broward Junior Golf Association in the early 1970’s. Don and Nancy moved from West Virginia to Ft. Lauderdale in 1959 and to Plantation in 1960, where he resided until his passing. Don is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy M. Dillon, son, Donald J. Dillon, and son Michael R. Dillon (Ken Dishman), brother in law, James Miller (Wanda), brother in law, Roger Miller (Barbara) and aunt, Irene Yates.
Donald Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Dovie Yates Belcher, father, Harry Dillon, uncle, JC Yates, half-brother, Johnny Belcher and half-brother, Bobby Belcher.
Don/Dad you are now in a better place. We’ll love you for always. We’ll love you forever.
The family will greet friends at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluefield, WV, Friday, May 30, 2014 from 12pm until 2pm. A Cryptside service will be held at 2:00pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluefield, WV entombment will follow the service.
